PGGCG-11 holds alumni meet

Reliving old memories, teachers, students and retired principals of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11 on Sunday held their third alumni association meet.

The mood was lifted by songs from the 70s to which everyone tapped their feet. Games of housie were played and fond memories and experiences were shared by the principals and students.

S Kala, a retired principal who joined the college in 1962 as a teacher, went on to be the Head of the Department of English and the principal and retired in 1975. "I have had such a good lot of students when I was a teacher here that all of them are my friends now. They meet me wherever I go and I take pride in calling them all my students. This meet is a very good idea, I just hope the attendance was a little more," she said.

Promila Kaushal, another retired principal of the college said, "This meet is worth coming for. I am recalling all the memories of my time as a student. I proudly say that I am a part of GCG-11. I remember how we used to fight to get into the classes of our teachers".

Achala Dogra, the present principal of the college, said, "GCG-11 has such famous alumni. The students from the college have made us all proud in all the fields. The one thing that we were lacking was a strong alumni association. So these are our efforts to bring all the students back to college".

Another alumni of the college, Kamaljeet Koonar, who was the first woman to get a gold medal in Asian Games in the 400 meters race said, "I owe a lot to my college. In 1969 when we were not allowed to go out of the college for practice, my principal allowed me. Coming back to the college today is like a homecoming for me".
