PGI bans earrings, nosepins, bangles, rings for Dec 8 exam

In what appears to be a case of once bitten twice shy, the authorities at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) are now leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the MD/MS entrance exam re-scheduled on December 8 gets a smooth run.

For the re-scheduled examination, the PGIMER authorities have prohibited even the tiniest piece of jewellery inside the examination hall. The instructions issued by the PGI authorities for the candidates clearly mention that even earrings, nosepins, bangles and rings will not be allowed inside the examination hall and that the candidates will have to remove them prior to their entry inside.

The move follows the November 10 incident wherein seven women candidates were caught using sophisticated devices to allegedly leak out the question paper of the MD/MS entrance exam. All the dummy candidates, who happened to be women, had sophisticated gadgets, Bluetooth devices stitched inside their specially tailored clothes and their minute cameras stuck to the buttons and the embellishments on their clothes.

In the new instructions, even wrist watches are prohibited for the examination.

Interestingly, the PGIMER authorities are going to provide ball point pens to the candidates to write answers on December 8 to rule out the possibility of even pen cameras inside the hall. Already, AIIMS, New Delhi, has been providing pens to the candidates appearing in MD/MS examination for a few years now.

Even wallets and purses are not being allowed this time during the examination.

Also, frisking, which was not done on November 10, will be strictly done this time. "Frisking of all the candidates will be carried out at the entry of the examination premises from 8 am onwards by the security officials at the entry point," say the instructions issued on Tuesday.

Videography, still photography and biometric finger print capturing will also be done during the examination and to facilitate the same, even 10-minute extra time will be given to the candidates.

The candidates have also been asked to reach their centres half an hour in advance.

Old admit cards valid

The admit cards for the entrance examination already issued are valid for the entrance examination which is to be re-conducted on December 8. The duplicate admit card may be taken from the training branch on any working day up to December 7. No duplicate admit card will be issued on the day of the entrance examination.
