The PGI MD/MS entrance exam was successfully conducted, on Saturday, in ten centres across Chandigarh from 10 am to 1pm. Out of the total 7,280 eligible candidates, 5,837 turned up for the exam. The exam results will be declared on December 10 by 9.00 pm and will be displayed on PGI website www.pgimer.nic.in. There are 178 seats available in various departments for MD/MS courses.
The exam, which was earlier held on November 10, was cancelled after CBI busted a cheating gang which used seven dummy candidates to leak the question paper to other members using sophisticated gadgets such as button cameras and bluetooth devices.
The questions were transmitted to experts sitting in Hyderabad and Patna who solved the paper. Around 5,240 candidates had appeared for the exam.
Today, however, PGI authorities left nothing to chance with strict security measures in place at exam centres. Photographs were matched of each and every candidate with the one on the roll sheets along with another identity proof, right at the entry points. Meanwhile, inside the exam centres, biometrics were taken of all the candidates and photographed inside the hall.
Ten more minutes were provided to students because of the extra security measures.
Mobile Jammers were also installed inside the exam centres and even staff members on exam duty were barred from bringing a mobile phone.
A flying squad, comprising senior faculty members of PGIMER, also visited the centres during the exam.
