PGI to hold golden jubilee alumni meet

Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Union Minister for Railways, will inaugurate the PGI Golden Jubilee Alumni Convention on December 15 at PGIMER. More than 500 members of the alumni both from India and abroad, have registered to participate.

The alumni convention will provide an opportunity for several alumni of the previous years who have qualified in 1960s and 1970s to come back and revisit their alma mater and meet their teachers, a large number of whom are settled in the tricity.

Some of the eminent alumni from abroad who are listed to speak include Drs Sabyasachi Mahapatra, Sanjeev Gupta, Brian Pereira, Anupam Agarwal, S Bhusnurmath and D Panigrahi.

PGI, with different educational courses and programmes, has produced about 6000 medical specialists and superspecialists and a large number of graduates and postgraduates in allied and basic sciences such as Nursing, Radiodiagnosis, Laboratory Technology and Physiotherapy. Alumni of the institute are settled globally, bringing laurels for the country. Many of them serve in important educational and professional positions all over the world.

Some of the sessions which have been planned are for building and developing excellence, boundaries and barriers of medical practice and future perspectives. Subjects on primary healthcare including in the community and in rural areas are also included in the programme. There are open sessions for reminiscences, life at the campus and other activities.

The institute has also established an Alumni Cell to develop an up-to-date directory and liaise with its alumni. An Alumni Fund with voluntary donations and contributions is proposed for promotion of academic and research pursuits of the Institute and its alumni .
