A teenager headed for school was run over by a Blueline bus on Monday morning. The incident occurred at New Usmanpur-II pushta, and irate locals damaged at least three dozen buses in the area in protest, triggering a traffic snarl for over an hour.
The victim, Aditya Kumar, 14, was a Class IX student of Sarvodaya Vidhyalaya in Mori Gate, the police said. He had left home at 7 am and was run over within 15 minutes, they added.
An officer said according to witnesses, driver of the bus plying on route number 213 (Anand Vihar to Mori Gate) did not stop as the victim was trying to get in. “He fell down and was run over,” the officer said.
Kumar died on the spot. Locals claimed the police took more than 45 minutes to arrive.
“We called the Police Control Room (PCR) immediately but a team reached the spot very late,” local resident Faisal said. “Upset locals damaged buses parked alongside the road and raised slogans against policemen.”
The bus driver has not been identified yet and is absconding.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Surender Yadav said a police team has been sent to verify the address and collect information about the driver.
A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against unknown person at New Usmanpur police station.
The victim’s father Santosh Kumar runs an autorickshaw; the family comes from Bilaspur in Bihar. Kumar, who came to the Capital seven years ago, said the Bluelines have made Delhi’s roads worse in these years. “These buses should be banned,” he said.
