Pietersen asks for ‘common sense’ from organisers

  • England captain Kevin Pietersen called on the game’s administrators to show some “common sense” after his side lost the Kanpur ODI on the Duckworth/Lewis method on Thursday. Pietersen said it was clear before the start that a 100-over match was not possible at this venue, and feared the same problem would come up in the sixth ODI in Guwahati.

“I knew there was no way the game would finish. We tried to get it sorted, tried to turn it around, but we can’t go against the decision made by the hierarchy. I mentioned it yesterday in the team meeting as well, but what’s happened has happened,” Pietersen told reporters.

The England captain raised concerns about the Guwahati match, saying bad light would be a factor there as well, despite the fact that the game was scheduled to start at 8.30 am. “I think they’ve (administrators) got to go back to the drawing board now. Things will have to change for the sake of the game. Guwahati is in the north-east and starting half-an-hour earlier is not going to make much of a change.”

Indian coach Gary Kirsten also said that India knew light would play a part in the proceedings. “We would’ve batted second even if we’d won the toss. We knew light will come into play, so we had prepared ourselves accordingly.”

Pietersen said the game might have tilted in England’s favour had it gone the full distance. “If we had a full game today, I think we would’ve taken it close. We missed a stumping in the end. A couple of more wickets and we would’ve come up trumps.”

Pommies continue to cribBy: kumar | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Pommies continue to crib. Pieterson knowws that umpires dont make rules but are empowered to implement them. They lost badly and sjhould not make lame duck excuses
Cricket at IndoreBy: SHAILENDRA SHARMA | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward I am not convinced with the words of Pietersen as he said that they would have been trump if the bad light would not interferred at the last moment of the game. Indians were in the driver seat the end of the 40th over and they would have won the match even if it was a match of stipulated 50 overs.

Common Sense!!! Stop this Nonsense kevinBy: tarun | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Well Kevin i guess it s like saying, "if this and that happened we would have won the game" But the case is if this would have not happen Indian team would certainly have not played like they played. So stop complaining and get on with the game. matter of the fact is your team is not upto the mark and you still needs to climb lot of ladders to compete.
