Pietersen recalled,Anderson rested for India ODI tour

England announced a 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming limited overs tour of India.

Middle-order batting mainstay Kevin Pietersen got the recall while paceman James Anderson was rested as England today announced a 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming limited overs tour of India.

Pietersen returned to England One-Day International squad after he was given a break by the English selectors in this month’s 3-0 ODI series win over India at home.

Apart from Pietersen, two other players — Durham’s Scott Borthwick and Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes – who were not part of the ODI series win over India, have also been included in the touring side to be led by opener Alastair Cook.

The selectors, however, have left out pace spearhead James Anderson from the touring squad, saying the decision to exclude him was “in line with our policy of sensibly managing player workloads”.

Left-handed batsman Ben Stokes has also been ignored so that he can undergo a rehabilitation programme on his finger injury.

The ODI squad will have only one uncapped player in Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker.

The selectors handpicked two additional players – Jos Buttler (Somerset) and Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire) – who will join the squad ahead of the Twenty20 fixture in Kolkata on October 29.

Regular Twenty20 skipper Stuart Broad, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a shoulder injury, will join the squad in India if he completes his rehabilitation programme ahead of schedule.

If Broad is unavailable,off-spinner Graeme Swann will lead the Twenty20 side, national selector Geoff Miller said.
