PIFF: Lifetime achievement awards for Rajesh Khanna,Dr Shreeram Lagoo

Veteran actors Rajesh Khanna and Dr Shreeram Lagoo will be honoured with the lifetime achievement awards at the eighth Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) that kicks off on January 8.

Veteran actors Rajesh Khanna and Dr Shreeram Lagoo will be honoured with the lifetime achievement awards at the eighth Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) that kicks off on January 8. The Sachin Dev Burman International Award for creative music and sound,a new category at PIFF ,will be given to Pyarelal of the musician duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

“ PIFF 2010 will have films in various categories which will be competing for cash awards worth Rs 20 lakh in various categories including prominent categories such as world competition section,Marathi and student competition section. In the world competition,out of 215 entries received from 51 countries,15 films have been selected whereas in the Marathi section seven out of 15 entries have been selected,” said Suresh Kalmadi,MP and chairman,PIFF.

The event wiil take place across six venues,E -Square,Inox,Fame Fatima Nagar,City Pride Kothrud,NFAI and the newly opened NFAI theatre at Kothrud

A special seminar in Association with Akhil Bharatiya Marathi chitrapat Mahamandal (ABMCM) will feature eminent film personalities presenting their views on music in Indian films at hotel Deccan Randezvous. “ We will be organising a special seminar on marketing,exhibition and distribution of Marathi movies,” said Ajay Sarpotdar,president,ABMCM.

With ‘About Elly’,an Iranian film by director Asghar Farhadi as the inaugural film,the festival will feature over 70 films from 48 countries. With 27 films from Egypt,Cuba,Slovania and Hungary as the country focus,the festival will also showcase eight films under the category -French new wave cinema. “We will be paying tributes to veteran film personalities such as director Shakti Samant,Firoz Khan,Nilu Phule,Di Pu Chitre,Bhaskar Chandawarkar and so on who passed away during the year 2009,” said Jabbar Patel,director,PIFF.
