Alleging malpractices by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and other politicians by purportedly making improper declaration of assets while contesting state assembly elections,a PIL has urged the Bombay High Court to institute a CBI inquiry.
The PIL alleged that the respondents who had won the state assembly elections had failed to declare assets.
“These candidates had adopted malpractices and won the election with corrupt practices while committing breach of rules and Code of Conduct,” the PIL alleged.
Among the respondents are Chief Minister Ashok Chavan,Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s daughter Pranati,Industries Minister Rajendra Darda,Gopoinath Munde’s daughter Pankaja Munde,Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi,former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh’s son Amit Deshmukh,President Pratibha Patil’s son Rajendra Shekhawat Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh and state NCP chief Madhukar Pichad.
The PIL,filed by social activist from Pune,Hemant Baburao Patil,is expected to come up for hearing before a division bench next week.
The PIL demanded a probe by CBI or other central investigative agency into the assets acquired by these politicians and suggested that if required the lawmakers may be asked to undertake narco-test.
The PIL further said,”a government of the people has remained a dream as power is now vested with money-holders and money-makers who have made election process a toy in the hands of capitalists. The common man still remains a common man..harsh action needs to be taken by courts.”
