  • The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued notices to the Union of India; Home Secretary, UT Administration and CBI on a public interest litigation (PIL) demanding a CBI investigation into the teacher recruitment scam.

Filed by Karamjit Singh, a resident of Sector 47-D, Chandigarh, the PIL demands a thorough probe by the CBI to unravel the involvement of all officers in the scam.

The high court, meanwhile, refused to stay the selection process, as demanded by the petitioner, till the pendency of the petition.

Representing the petitioner, advocate Ranjivan Singh said: “The investigation by the Chandigarh Police reveals the involvement of higher-ups in the scam. Preliminary investigation had brought to light the connection of touts with the former DPI (S) Samwartak Singh. But such a scandal is not possible with the involvement of the DPI alone. There are strong probabilities that even other senior authorities are involved in the entire scam.”

The advocate added: “Though the DPI was disassociated from the selection process, the involvement of higher authorities cannot be ruled out. The Chandigarh Police, being directly under the Home Secretary, who also happens to be the Education Secretary, seems to be finding it difficult to pick up pace and courage to book the real culprits at the higher level.”

Ranjivan Singh further said that in order to unearth the involvement of higher authorities in the scam, it is mandatory that the investigation be conducted by the CBI and not the Chandigarh Police.
