Public Interest Litigations (PIL)s should not be used to settle political scores,Union minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today said.
“Public Interest Litigations should not be used to settle political scores and judges and lawyers should discourage frivolous cases being filed under the guise of PILs,” Ravi said in his convocation address at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies.

The minister said the Indian judiciary is known for its independence, integrity and professional ethics.
“The Constitution provides certain safeguards for the judiciary so that it can protect citizens and can always act impartially without the fear of favour,” he said
On accessibility of the judicial system for the poor,he stressed the need to produce a new generation of capable young lawyers in large numbers to provide high-quality legal services at reasonable cost to the common man.
