Pimpri-Chinchwad diary: Commuters unhappy with risky grade separator

Commuters are unhappy with the grade separator that came up in Pimpri a few years ago. Though a part of the grade separator road was repaired a few months ago, it is still full of potholes. "Currently, a big water-filled pothole at the grade separator is posing a lot of problems for commuters, especially two-wheeler riders," said advocate Sushil Mancharkar. He said the grade separator was right in front of the PCMC headquarters, but the administration was taking its own time to set it right. "The Pimpri grade separator has never been in good shape. But the other grade separators in Chinchwad and Akurdi are in better condition," said Munir R, a citizen. PCMC officials said they would look into the complaints.

Library with a difference for students in Akurdi

The Superb Welfare Education Society will set up a library in Vithalwadi area of Akurdi for school and college students without any membership fee. Iklas Sayeed, a member of the society, said the objective of starting the library was to wean away youngsters from Internet and TV. "Youngsters are spending hours chatting on the net and watching movies on TV. We want to create awareness among youths," he said. Sayeed said the library will hold lectures on various issues. "We will organise study tours to places like PCMC headquarters, water purification plant, abattoir, science parks and other places," he said. The library will run from Arun Arcade with donations from citizens, activists and social organisations.

Corporate meet at DY Patil institute

The Dr D Y Patil Institute of Management Studies organised a corporate symposium at Dhyanprasad Auditorium, Akurdi. The event was inaugurated by Nielsoft Ltd president and COO Surendra Agarwal, while Dayanad Guddin, GM, Strategic HR, Endurance Technologies Ltd, was the guest of honor.
