Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA),Gurgaon, has already acquired 30.51 acre land for the plant, planned to be built at a cost of Rs 7.03 crore. It would have the capacity to treat 1,000 tonnes of waste and a green belt would also be developed along the treatment plant, according to sources.

Talking to The Indian Express, Ashok Gupta, an activist of the DLF City residents in Gurgaon, said the principal secretary (local bodies), has been directed to file an affidavit in the connection, listing every step being taken for setting up the plant.

He also demanded that the existing dumping ground near DLF City be shifted by the Gurgaon administration. The garbage generated in Gurgaon is currently being dumped near village Chakarpur, on the land given by the village panchayat.

Incidentally, the DLF City residents had earlier filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the dumping of garbage close to their houses, following which, Gurgaon Municipal Corporation had submitted that the Faridabad Municipal Corporation would set up at the solid waste treatment plant plant at Bandhwari village,15 km from Gurgaon.

The Executive Officer of the Gurgaon MC,Y S Gupta, had said that the state urban local bodies department had transferred the land to the Gurgaon MC on October 16, on which the waste treatment plant is to come up.

Gurgaon MC had leased out 30.5 acres of land at Bandhwari village to the Faridabad MC Commissioner on October 17 free of cost for a period of 30 years.The entire expenditure for the setting up of the plant would be borne by the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, sources said.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon MC has invited tenders to set up 10 big dust-bins for waste dumping, according to sources. The district administration is also considering imposing penalty on persons who dump waste on road side, sources said.
