The Allahabad High Court on Thursday took on record the appearance of the counsels on behalf of Dimple Yadav, MP from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat and wife of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and other respondents in connection with an election petition filed against her.
So far, nobody had appeared before the court from the respondents' side. The court has fixed January 9, 2013, as the next date of hearing.
Petitioner Prabhat Pandey, a member of little known outfit Voters Party, had challenged the election of Dimple — "unopposed" — alleging that he and some other persons were forcibly prevented from filing their nominations for the by-election held in June. He had demanded that the election be annulled.
Hearing the petition, a single judge bench of Justice Devendra Pratap Singh said: "List on 9.1.2013 showing the name of K R Singh, B N Singh and H P Dubey as counsel for respondents."
Advocate K R Singh is representing Dimple, while B N Singh will be arguing on behalf of the then District Magistrate (Kannauj), who was also the Returning Officer. H P Dubey has put in his appearance for the current District Magistrate (Kannauj). The court asked the petitioner to file replies to the written objections submitted by the counsels representing Dimple and other respondents.
