Pleasant surprise: ‘Cool’ April,frequent rains

The temperature since the beginning of April has hovered between 30 to 33 degrees Celsius. The highest that the maximum temperature touched this month was on April 16 when it was 35.8 degrees,2 degrees above normal. While the lowest maximum temperature was recorded on April 3 when it was 29.5 degrees,4 degrees below normal. In the past two days the temperature has witnessed a downward slide. From 35.8 degrees,the temperature dipped to 32.7 degrees on April 17 that was one degree above normal.

Meteorological Department Director Surinder Paul said that as compared to last year the temperature has been cooler. “Last year the temperature in April had touched 43.2 degrees. However,if we compare the previous years,the temperature in April is usually pleasant. In the coming days there would be an increase in temperature. It was due to Western Disturbances that rain was being witnessed in the region,” he said.

Another factor contributing to the pleasant summer is the rainfall and snowfall in the upper reaches. Due to this the temperature in the region has not increased substantially.

In 2009 the maximum temperature had touched 41.2 degrees on April 30 while the lowest maximum temperature was recorded as 27 degrees on April 10. Similarly in 2008 the highest that the maximum temperature had touched was 41 degrees,while the lowest maximum temperature was recorded as 24 degrees.
