A heart warming gesture on part of Rahul Gandhi brought a 62-year-old woman to tears as the young Congress leader held her in his hands offering water to drink after noticing that she had tripped in the melee caused during his visit to Pune on Tuesday.

When Rahul's car entered Congress Bhavan on Tuesday evening, a lot of jostling took place at the crowded gate as security personnel tried to keep at bay enthusiastic party workers who surged forward raising slogans “Rahul Gandhi Age Badho, Hum Tumhare Saath Hai”.

Malti Bhor, an old woman who had set up a stall in the exhibition of products of women's self-help group called 'Mansi', which was to be visited by the Congress general secretary, fell down in the pushing around and almost fainted.

Rahul noticed the woman falling to the ground and stopped the car midway. He rushed to Malti, supported her with his hands and took a water bottle asking her to drink from it.

“Please forgive me Maji”, were his words as he made her sit comfortably and left to address Congress workers, a little away in the premises.

The woman smiled and kept the water bottle with her as if it was precious memento.

In a five-minute speech Rahul urged party workers to fight the ensuing elections unitedly and re-install a Congress government-led by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Earlier, he had a meeting with NCP President Sharad Pawar at Vasantdada Sugar Institute at Manjri, around 25 km from here, where he ostensibly got to know the functioning of Sugar technology and cooperative factories.

Rahul like JesusBy: S.Krishnamurthy | 06-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward By giving much publicity to an act any normal person would do, Rauhul is projected and promoted like a saviour, like Jesus giving water to Benhur! When Indians are going to stop hero-worshipping and find leaders who have knowledge and experience and dedication, rather than family names! This drama has been performed by many times by cheap politicians in India. Find something new, Mr. Rahul!!
This youngster is a big fraudBy: Bishnu Sahay | 05-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward God help this country if such dramatical
"Saviour" RahulBy: Hero Vaz | 04-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward By his "humanitarian" doing, Rahul Gandhi has "saved" the country (!!!!) like his father "did" - with what result, all Indians know. What Rahul did, any half-decent person would have done in the circumstances. The media foolishly focuses on the petty and often worthless things so called political leaders do to gain cheap popularity so that the politicians can grab power and loot the country.
Good success Rahul -good actingBy: indian | 04-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward Yes, he is indeed a very good growing actor..no doubt.
nothing wrongBy: ajay | 04-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward there is nothing wrong in what rahul gandhi did, it was his duty as a human being. But there is nothing to glorify him too as done in this news. or Indian Express think rahul gandhi is too big for such gustures and if he has done somthing like this he need to be glorified for this? i can accept this glorification only if the people can get roti , kapda and makan which are promised by his family since last 60 yrs but yet to be delivered. brought out every election and forgoten after elections.
