The Prime Minister,Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is under sharp criticism over allegations of corruption within his government, has asked his Cabinet ministers to disclose their assets and to cut themselves off from any business.
The developments come at a time when former Telecom Minister A. Raja is lodged in jail in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, and Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran is being charged of selectively handing out 2G spectrum licenses to telecom service providers.
Breaking his silence on the charges against Maran,Dr. Singh on Monday said the issue is being looked into by the law enforcement agencies.
“These matters are being looked into by law enforcement agencies. They should be allowed to work without fear or favour,” said Dr. Singh.
He also said that his government is very serious about fighting corruption, but there is no magic wand.
Maran has, however, refuted the charges and has stressed that he does not own any shares in Sun TV.
Maran on Monday denied charges of forcing former Aircel chief C Sivasankaran to sell stakes in his company.
