  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has deferred his visit to Jammu after state mourning was declared. He was scheduled to visit Jammu on Tuesday to receive an honorary D Litt degree from the University of Jammu.

The function is likely to be rescheduled for a later date.

Preparing for the visit, the Army, paramilitary forces including the National Security Guards (NSG) and police had put in place a security blanket for the Prime Minister in Jammu, covering the airport, his cavalcade route, the function venue and the Raj Bhawan where he was scheduled to stay.

Singh would have been conferred the degree by Chancellor and state Governor S K Sinha in the presence of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and other eminent persons. The Prime Minister would have returned to Delhi in the evening.
