PM has offered all Central help to flood-hit AP: Rosaiah

    Singh has assured Andhra Pradesh of all help from the Centre to cope with the flood situation.

    Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured Andhra Pradesh of all help from the Centre to cope with the situation arising out of the massive floods in the state.

    The assurance was given to Chief Minister K Rosaiah who spoke to him over phone last night.

    "The Prime Minister assured all help from the Central government," Rosaiah told reporters.

    He told the Prime Minister that it is for the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that so much flood water has been gushing into and out of Srisailam dam.

    Rosaiah also spoke to Home Minister P Chidambaram and Defence Minister A K Antony and sought their help in conducting relief and rescue operations.

    The Chief Minster also spoke to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the flood situation.

    Floods in AP By: s ramji | 03-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward How suddenly situation has changed from defecit in rains to all round flooding. A lot of water is being let into the sea at vijayawada. i dont know whether the surplus water can be diverted to chennai using the Telugu Ganga Canal - Chennai lakes can take a lot of this water. Will it be feasible to divert the water and use the water for quenching the thirst of Chennai instead of letting the water into the sea.

Krishna hits Srisailam, then Nagarjuna Sagar and finally Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada. As you said, once it escapes in Vijayawada, the water goes straight to sea. YSR started a grand plan called "Jalayagnam". Most of it should be implemented by end of this 5-year term. We call him "Apara Bhagiratha".
