Terming cross-border terrorism a "most pervasive threat", Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said that there was "credible information" that terrorist groups in Pakistan were planning to carry out fresh attacks on India.

"There is credible information of ongoing plans of terrorist groups in Pakistan to carry out fresh attacks," Singh told a gathering of Chief Ministers from across the country attending a Conference on Internal Security on Monday.

"The area of operation of these terrorists today extends far beyond the confines of Jammu & Kashmir and covers all parts of our country," he said adding that though additional measures had been put in place after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, there was "need for continued vigilance". "The challenges posed by asymmetric warfare and terrorism as also the Left Wing Extremism can only be met through new ideas and more resolute actions and determination. We need to be ahead of the curve if we are to succeed as we must," Singh said.

The security agencies needed to be prepared for encountering more sophisticated technologies and enhanced capabilities in dealing with the terrorist challenge, the PM said. "We also need to guard our sea frontier as vigilantly as our land border," he said.

"We are all aware that most issues pertaining to internal security require a coordinated response by the Centre and the States acting in concert. The importance of this can not be over-emphasized. A piece meal approach will simply not work given the nature of challenges we face. Not only do we need more information sharing, we also need synchronized action. Let me assure all the States that the Centre will not be found wanting in this regard," the PM told the gathering.

Only one solution: Destroy Pakistan.By: Arindam | 18-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Everyone knows that Pakistan is a terrorist state.Everyone knows that it is incorrigible.Everyone knows that the only language Pakis understand is force. So it should be clear that the only solution to the terrorist/Kashmir/jihadi/Pakistan problem, is the destruction of Pakistan.Anything else - be it diplomacy, warnings, condemnations, international efforts etc... is simply a waste of time.
Dear ManWoman Singh....By: NoWhere | 18-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Now This is too much. You have crossed all limits of Humour. Great Joke... think so had a bad Dream yesterday...
Warm Pakistan first.By: Aniyan | 18-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Domestic warning is fine. But warn Pakistan to tighten their security in their borders to ensure that their nationals do not cross the border to create chaos in India. And further, any more attacks as happened in the past, is not acceptable. This should be told very clearly to the Pak rulers, with whom the Indian PM joined for a combined news conference. Let this now be clear to Manmohan that the situation in Pak soil is not under the control of Pak rulers but the Army and ISI authorities. Until things clear out modestly, the PM should not attempt again to talk and dine with all those idiots occupying chairs there. The Indian PM must realize the diplomatic principle, especially of India's policy with Pakistan. There should be no politics in this matter. India's foreign policy never changed during the past 50 years. He should learn more before setting out for similar meetings such as NAM.
Please do not create Panic, Mr Prime Minister ! The countrymen are already a harassed lotBy: A K SAXENA( A retired civil servant) | 18-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward We are already grappling with day-to-day problems particularly the rise in the prices of consumer products. You and your colleagues cannot fool us any longer. You have miserably failed on all the fronts. You are now trying to camouflage your failures by diverting peoples' attention to the most readily available theme of "internal security" by instilling the fears of terrorists, extremists and the threat from across the border. What is your National Security Advisor meant for?We would like to hear the 'intercepts'of conversation between the Pak-based terrorists and their Delhi-based modules. Please make these tapes public by releasing their recordings on TV channels.More importantly, what steps have been taken by you to safeguard the indians against possible attacks as perceived by you.Sometimes, imaginary fears are created by you and your ministers for raising demands for weapons procurement. This enables some invisible elements to have their cuts and commissions from the defence deals.
