  • The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday received permission from the district collectorate to rope in the services of 78 water tankers, instead of 60, as and when required. The process of digging bore wells in the city is likely to start from Saturday.

K C Karkar, special officer appointed to monitor the water crisis, said, “The PMC requested permission from the district collectorate to use the services of additional water tankers. We have distributed the permission letter to all the ward offices so that they can utilise the services of these tankers whenever necessary. Now, neither can the water tanker owners refuse to provide tankers, nor can the ward offices complain of the unavailability of tankers,” Karkar said.

On the bore wells, he said, “We have identified the locations and private agencies have been identified for the digging. We are awaiting permission to commence work.”
