The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) city improvement committee on Thursday made public the draft Development Plan (DP) which gives special emphasis on public transport and affordable housing.
The draft DP was made public after it was presented at the general body meeting on Thursday despite few corporators objecting to it and creating a ruckus over it. Committee chairperson Chetan Tupe said there have been deliberate efforts to enable more housing in the city with facility of premium Floor Space Index (FSI) on conditions.
"It has become difficult for middle or lower middle class to afford a house in the city due to increased rates. Hence, the committee has made a provision of giving 2.5 FSI for housing projects that will ensure 60 per cent of apartments for economically weaker section, lower income group and middle income group," he said.
Similarly, housing projects on private land will be given 2.5 FSI if the owner decides to develop it through MHADA with assurance of tenements being distributed in the share of 50 per cent to owner, 25 per cent to MHADA and 25 per cent to PMC, he said, adding that it would be mandatory for providing affordable housing in these schemes.
Tupe said the committee had taken some decisions as a responsibility towards the society. "The state has declared free housing to conservancy staff who have served continuously for 25 years. It has been found that hardly 5 per cent of the total staff get eligible for the government scheme due to their discontinuity of service for some or the other reason. Hence, it has been proposed that conservancy staff with 15 years of continuous service will get free housing from PMC," Tupe said adding that the private plot owners willing to contribute in social service by providing free housing to conservancy staff will be offered additional FSI.
