Standing committee gives nod to acquire land for laying pipeline
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon begin work on a project to draw water from Bhama Askhed dam to meet the water demands of the city. The standing committee has given its nod to acquire land for laying pipeline for the purpose.
In the proposal approved at the standing committee meeting on Tuesday, the civic administration said while it draws water from Khadakwasla dam at present, considering the limitation of the dam it wanted additional 200 MLD water from Bhama Askhed dam to cater to areas like Dhanori, Kalas, Vidyanagar, Vadgaonsheri and Kharadi.
The state government approved the reserve of 100 MLD for PMC in the dam and the state cabinet has given its sanction to another 100 MLD of water reserve. The first phase of the project would cost Rs 447.6 crore while the second phase would cost Rs 38.52 crore and the PMC has sought funds for the project under JNNURM.
The civic administration will also table proposals for compensation to the owners whose land would be acquired for the project, with powers to change the land acquisition plan if there is problem in acquiring the demarcated land and go for new sites to ensure the implementation of the project.
