The general council of the PMK will meet on Friday to decide the future course of action after the DMK snapped ties with it on Tuesday. The meeting will bring together functionaries from across the state, including blocks and towns, to discuss options before the party.
According to party sources, the cadres are happy about breaking the relationship with “big brother” DMK. “They never respected us, were always hesitant to allot seats to us, and their cadres are hostile to our party members,” said a PMK functionary. According to him, the public comments by his party leaders were due to the absence of any coalition dynamics where issues and initiatives could be discussed and addressed before announcing them in the public.
Though the snapping of ties was seen as a rap on the knuckle, the PMK leadership has indicated that it will not mend its ways. Stating that his party had no regrets, Ramadoss said now without the compulsion of being in an alliance, the PMK would raise more issues concerned with public welfare, acting as an opposition in the Assembly.
There are reports that the PMK and AIADMK are coming closer to form an alliance though PMK leaders are tightlipped about it.
Meanwhile, 5 lawyers of the Madras High Court, owing allegiance to PMK, tendered resignation from Government posts on Wednesday. Additional Government Pleader K Balu, Government advocates N K T Gopu, P Gopiraja, M Jyothimani and P A Kathirvel submitted their resignation to the Government Pleader.
