Police add attempt to rape charge in Pallavi murder case
Mumbai: Almost five months after Pallavi Purkayastha was murdered at her Wadala flat, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has introduced the section of attempt to rape to the draft charges against the accused Sajjad Ahmad Mughal alias Sajjad Pathan. He was a security guard at Himalayan Heights, where 25-year Pallavi found murdered. "The finality of the sections will be decided only on its acceptance by the court," said Investigating officer Mahesh Tawade.
HC upholds life term for convicts in Bijal rape case
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Friday upheld the conviction of five persons in the 2003 Bijal Joshi gangrape case who were awarded life imprisonment by the Ahmedabad Sessions Court in 2008 and ordered to pay compensation of Rs 15,000 each to the kin of the victim.
