Police ask DJs to adhere to noise limits

The Chandigarh Police on Wednesday asked various DJs and music houses operating from the city to adhere to the prescribed noise limit during marriage functions and parties.

The Chandigarh Police on Wednesday asked various DJs and music houses operating from the city to adhere to the prescribed noise limit during marriage functions and parties. Addressing a meeting with over 100 representatives of DJ Houses,DSP (Communication & PCR) Roshan Lal briefed them about the prescribed sound levels in the city and asked them to strictly implement the provisions of noise pollution under the law.

The prescribed limits were 75 db in the day and 70 db in the night for industrial areas; 65 db in the day and 55 db in the night for commercial areas; 55 db in the day and 50 db in the night for residential areas; and 50 db in the day and 40 db in the night for silence zones.

The DSP asked them not to play loud music during late night hours (10 pm to 6 am). The police have also decided to assign two police stations each to an inspector-level police officer,who along with their technical staff will measure the noise level in their respective areas.
