  • The Jammu and Kashmir couple who were picked up by the state police for possible links with the Mumbai terror attacks continue to be under the scanner with the recovery of a couple of cellphones from them. The authorities, however, are yet to get any information on the relatives of the couple who live in Mumbai, sources said.

Showkat, who is a Junior Assistant in the Doda Municipal Committee, was picked up along with his wife recently. One of his relatives, Ghulam Ahmed, is allegedly a militant, while another Abdul Majid reportedly works in a top hotel in Mumbai. Police are trying to determine if he works in one of the hotels targeted in Mumbai.

While Showkat and his wife reportedly said they had cut off any ties with Ahmed, the police claim to have intercepted calls made by them to the militant. Records also showed calls made by them to Mumbai. Said DIG, Doda-Ramban range, H K Lohia: Showkat is still being interrogated while the police are trying to determine the details of their mobile calls. Special teams are also looking for Ghulam Ahmed, who is active in Doda district.”
