Two police stations award certificates to their personnel for good work
It is a common complaint among lower-rung cops that whenever a case is cracked, senior police officers appear on TV and their pictures are splashed across newspapers while the ‘real’ men behind the success go unnoticed. Now, the Shivaji Park and Dadar police stations are taking steps to ensure that such policemen too get their share of credit. Every Friday, they award certificates to their officers who have done good work.
The practice has been on for the past few months, and this Friday it was the turn of constables Keshav Bhoiye, Sikander Wasave, Sunil Godse and Adhikrao Lavand to receive the certificates.
Despite sweat running down their faces as they stood upright under the sun, they were all smiles. And as soon as their names were called out, they marched to the front of the group and accepted their certificates from Assistant Commissioner of Police Balkrishna Bhange.
“These personnel were to a large extent responsible for cracking most of the cases as they are the ones who slog on the field. Under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Sadanand Date and Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe, we struck upon the idea of issuing certificates and a nominal reward to the personnel who do good work. This boosts the morale of the personnel who rarely get credit for their contribution,” ACP Bhange said.
Bhoiye and Wasave, both 30 years old, from the Dadar police station, were instrumental in nabbing an accused in a 1989 rioting case who had arrived in the city in April. Due to their hard work, the case against the accused will now be able to proceed.
