2 arrested claim to be Dera Saccha Sauda followers.
The Pune traffic police on Friday laid a trap and stopped three vehicles at Wakad with red beacons and sirens and moving at a high speed like VIP convoys. Police searched 16 people travelling in these vehicles, all hailing from Punjab and Haryana, and found two pistols and 26 live cartridges from their possession. The Hinjewadi police arrested two of these 16 people under sections of the Arms Act.
The suspects have been identified as Yachin Badavani (26) of Punjab and Mahendrasingh Gurutejsingh (38) of Haryana. "We arrested the two as they were carrying weapons without licence," said senior inspector Satish Devare.
"They claim to be disciples of Dera Saccha Sauda head Gurumeet Ram Rahim Singh. They said they were going for a Satsang function at Kochi. We are verifying the fact," Devare said.
Police said the three vehicles were going towards Pune on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. On getting information about these suspicious vehicles, Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol asked deputy commissioner (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare to take action. Soon, a team of traffic police led by inspector Sampatrao Patil and assistant inspector Vimal Bidwe laid a trap and intercepted the vehicles at Wakad.
Two arrested, weapons seized
In a separate incident, a Chatushringi police team led by senior inspector M G Bolkotgi arrested two people near Hotel Nisarg on the Pashan Sus road around 11.45 pm on Thursday, for possessing two pistols, three magazines and six live cartridges. Police have identified the suspects as Bhagirath Neharkar (26) and Krishna Shelke (56), both from Junnar. The duo has been arrested under Sections of the Arms Act.
