The alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Salim alias Mohammad Aslam, arrested in Delhi on Tuesday, had completed his post-graduation from the Lucknow University in the 2003-05 session.
On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh ATS verified the details — as revealed by Aslam — with the university records. Aslam claimed to have taken admission at the varsity in MA-Arab Culture in 2003.
The information matched, but Aslam’s photograph is missing from the data in the list available with the computer.
The Additional Director General ATS and Law & Order AK Jain said the university authorities have been asked to search the examination form of Aslam to check his photograph. That search will be made on Thursday.
The Delhi Special Cell had found a fake LU ID from the suspected militant, which had his photograph. The name it carried was Saleem. But during interrogation, the man claimed he was Mohammad Aslam, a native of Mandi police station area, Rajauri district in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Delhi Police contacted the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) to verify the university credentials. Jain said the ATS team visited the LU computer centre at noon.
According to the university records, his father’s name is Mohammad Lateef and mother’s Jainab. His local address was in Nadwatul, an Islamic seminary located adjacent to the Lucknow University. His permanent address tallied with the one he had given the Delhi Police, Jain said. Aslam’s date of birth is mentioned incorrectly — it reads 03-02-198 —one digit being missing.
