  • In the suicide case of Vasant Gohil who committed suicide at his residence in Ellisbridge allegedly due to harassment by money lenders, the police have interrogated two of the several moneylenders mentioned in Gohil’s suicide note.

H M Harware, the police sub-inspector investigating the case, said, “We could find the people based on their mobile numbers we got. One Surjitsingh Jaswantsingh Saluja (60), a resident of Naranpura, had lent Rs 20, 000 to Gohil on May 29 at an interest rate of 1.5 per cent. He is a licensed moneylender and his licence is of date July 15, 2007. The second lender, Bharat Vanant (35), a resident of Ghatlodiya, had lent Rs 10, 000 to Gohil at an interest rate of 5 per cent five months back. Vanant held no licence to lend money.”

The sources close to Gohil said somebody had threatened him to repay the money or else face goons at his home.
