The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday said it had already questioned nine Bollywood stars and will soon question actor Suneil Shetty regarding their participation in a celebrity cricket match organised at Abu Dhabi in April this year by underworld don Chhota Shakeel’s aide Iqbal Attarwala.
According to the Crime Branch, some cricketers as well as other film stars are also likely to be questioned. “We have already questioned Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Arbaz Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Esha Deol and Malaika Arora Khan,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria.
“We asked them about their participation in the match organised by Attarwala’s company Show Blitz Entertainment in Abu Dhabi this year. They were asked to produce certain documents of agreement. Some actors have been granted time to do so. We have proof to show that Show Blitz has underworld connections. These actors were asked whether they participated for business reasons only or whether there were other factors involved,” said Maria.
According to the police, two celebrity cricket matches were organised, but only one took place, as Attarwala was deported and arrested by the Crime Branch in August. Two event management companies—Suneil Shetty’s PopKorn and Sohail Khan Production—were also involved in organising the match.
“We will call Shetty for questioning soon. We had approached him earlier, but he was busy with some commitments,” said Maria.
Attarwala has organised several dance shows in the Gulf. He is an accused in cases of land grabbing, criminal intimidation, cheating and extortion.
