Unable to rectify the technical snag developed in the computer system and the biometric machines, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Board has decided to conduct the primary phase of the recruitment process of constables across the state manually.
The Physical Endurance Test (PET), which was scheduled to begin on Monday, has now been deferred to November 12. The Board had introduced the biometric machine in order to prevent attempts of impersonation at any stage of the selection process by collecting the specimen of the finger-prints of the candidates on the very first day of the recruitment process.
Besides the finger-prints, a bio-chip has to be attached in the body of each applicant taking the running test. This chip records the exact distance covered by a particular candidate and time taken which can be read on a machine. It is meant to eliminate human error.
These measures were introduced this year to ensure transparency in the recruitment and eliminate complaints of corruption and favouritism.
Recruitment Board ADG V C Goel said: “Since the agency hired for providing technical expertise has asked for four more days to restore the system, we have decided not to collect specimen of the finger-prints of the candidates in the primary stage.”
“Now the finger-prints would be taken of those who qualify the PET,” Goel added.
The SPs have been asked to instruct the officials engaged in the recruitment process to allow the candidate to take the measurement test after proper verification of their photographs and documents, said Goel.
