* Cabinet minister Manoranjan Kalia and candidate from Jalandhar Central for 2007 Assembly polls was booked in two cases. On January 24, 2007, he was booked for blocking a road to organise a political function, and on February 3, 2007, he was booked under Section 188 of the IPC for violation of election code.
Status of cases: First case was declared untraced on January 27, 2008, on the pretext that occurrence was not proved, while the second is still pending.
* Tejinder Singh Bittu, former Chairman of the Improvement Trust and Congress candidate from Jalandhar (Central) for 2007 Assembly polls, was booked in three cases. He was booked on January 31, 2007, February 1 and February 12 for accompanying a large cavalcade and defacement of property.
Status of cases: Two cases are pending, one declared untraced on November 28, 2008.
* Former Congress minister Gurkanwal Kaur and Congress candidate from Jalandhar Cantonment for 2007 assembly polls was booked on January 24, 2007, for coming in a huge cavalcade to file nomination papers.
Status of case: Declared untraced on April 12, 2007.
* SAD MLA Jagbir Brar from Jalandhar Cantonment was booked for blocking a road during on January 24, 2007.
Status of case: Though the police had declared the case as untraced on April 12, 2007, it is pending in the court.
The police go on a spree of booking politicians before elections to beat the rap of the Election Commission. But once the polls are over, the cases are brushed under the carpet.
