  • The Delhi Police on Tuesday said an attempt to rape case filed by a 30-year-old Saudi Arabia national living in Delhi on November 5 is weakening as the victim is giving conflicting statements.

The victim lodged a complaint with Sunlight Colony police, claiming that a van driver had attempted to rape her in Sarai Kale Khan area. But a senior officer said, “We investigated the allegations and now the complainant is trying to retract from her statement — she says it was molestation and threat, not an attempt to rape. We will need some time to know what the truth is.”

The police said the complainant said she had accompanied her friend, one Lul, to Agra to get her residential permit renewed. “Her friend stayed back after she was told that her papers would come next day,” the officer said. “The complainant returned.”

The FIR says there was another family in the van which got off at Faridabad and the driver thereafter allegedly stopped at Sarai Kale Khan bus stand and attempted to rape her after threatening to kill her. Police said the complainant refused to undergo a medical test claiming that the driver had only attempted to rape her.
