Police stations to get Rs 25,000 per month for routine administrative expenses, says Satej

Minister of State for Home Satej Patil on Saturday announced in Pune that each police station will get funds for routine administrative expenses which are further likely to be increased. Patil also announced that Traffi-i-Cop system that was piloted in Pune will soon be launched in the state.

Patil was in the city for the foundation laying ceremony of an assembly hall for the traffic control branch. He said, "Earlier there was a plan to implement it in the city commissionerates in the state. But we have now decided to take it to all district police headquarters too. The work in this direction is in its last stage."

He also said each police station requires funds for routine expenditure for administrative work. "Every police station will get Rs 25,000 per month which will soon increase to Rs 1 lakh." Till now the expenditure was done centrally from police headquarters. Now, some money will directly come to individual police station. Senior police officers, including Commissioner Gulabrao Pol, Additional Commissioner Shahaji Solunke, Chandrashekhar Daithankar, DCP Vishwas Pandhare and Rajesh Bansode and MLC Mohan Joshi attended.

Patil said there was a demand that 50% of the money collected as fine should be given to traffic police. "We have already issued a circular that some percentage of the money given to local self governments be given to traffic police." He asked the police department to get in touch with the municipal corporation for implementing the norm.

Traffi-i-Cop

Traffi-i-Cop, a national award-winning initiative of Pune Traffic Police, was shelved due to lack of funds in December 2011. As part of the project, traffic cops were given BlackBerry phones in November 2009 for easy verification of vehicle records and identification of habitual offenders.

Khadak police station to be solar powered

Patil inaugurated the solar energy system at Khadak police station, on Saturday, making it the first fully solar powered police station in the state. The solar energy system was in place at the police station for the last six months. "The police station will not require grid power and load shedding will not be a problem for them. This initiative should be taken forward to other police establishments too," he said.
