A two-member team of Delhi Police's Special Cell, which is in Tehran probing the attack on the car of an Israeli Embassy diplomat, will return to the city on Monday.
The two officers — Additional DCP Sanjeev Yadav and Inspector Hriday Bhushan — have shared case details with the Iranian government.
Sources in the Special Cell said the visit is the first among several overseas trips planned by police for the case. In a day or two, police hope to get a green signal from their chief to visit Georgia and Thailand for investigation.
According to sources, the two countries have told the Ministry of External Affair that they will allow Indian police to visit. The Special Cell will also visit Malaysia and Israel to share investigation details with their counterparts there.
Police said the communication with Georgia police is important because the phone of the prime accused, Houshang Afshar Irani, was found to be active in Georgia.
In February 13, the day the embassy car was attacked in Delhi, a similar bomb was recovered in Georgia — it was attached to a car of the Israeli Embassy there.
Police believe co-ordination and prompt action by police from the other countries could help in busting the local modules of those countries.
Sources said the two officers, during their visit to Tehran, shared the details on Irani, Saeid Moradi and Mohammad Kharzei — all three are absconding and a red corner notice has been issued against them.
Syed Ali Sadr Mahdian, who is alleged to have roped in Indian journalist Syed Mohammed Ahmed Kazmi, is suspected to be hiding in Tehran. A report by the Malaysian authorities, which talks about Irani fleeing to Tehran via Kuala Lumpur, has been shared with the Iranian government, sources said.
