Fed up with his marriage and fights at home,a Delhi Police constable gave a one lakh supari to five men to murder his wife. Officials said Mangal Singh conspired to murder his wife and make it look like a hit-and-run case.
The woman survived the accident but is yet to recover completely.
The South district police stumbled upon the incident that occurred a month ago while investigating a case of motorcycle theft in Saket.
On Monday, three persons,Anup,Amit and Subodh were arrested for stealing a motorcycle from Ashok Vihar, where a case in this regard was registered earlier. During their interrogation, they kept changing their statements, and we became suspicious. They disclosed startling details of another case, saying a suspended police constable had paid them money to murder his wife Meena in a fake road accident case about a month ago, said DCP (South) Chhaya Sharma.
A deeper probe into the matter led to the arrest of the constable and three others Raghuvir Singh Rathore,Billu Chaudhary and Anish.
Mangal was suspended in a case of corruption and is presently posted with the 3rd Batallion of DAP. He married Meena in 1995 and they have three children. Shortly after their marriage, she had registered a case of cruelty and dowry demand against Mangal and his family members.
They reached a compromise, but continued to quarrel incessantly at home. It was then that he decided to get rid of Meena. He took his close friend Raghubir Singhs help who approached Anish,a car dealer, and three car mechanics Anup,Amit, and Billoo to execute the task, Sharma said.
Police said Anup and Amit accepted a payment of Rs 25,000 from the constable, and another Rs 25,000 for arranging a fake driving licence and hiring a Scorpio for the the crime.
On July 25,police received information of a hit-and-run case in Rohinis Sector 6,where the constables wife was injured. Police said she was walking her son to school when she was hit by a Scorpio. Sources said the men had followed Meena for five days.
