  • An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was transferred to the Police Lines as a “punishment posting” for allegedly manhandling a lawyer in a local court here today.

ASI Gian Chand was working in the Division Number 5 police station.

According to information, two advocates entered into a heated argument while arguing their sides in the court.

Sources said ASI Chand, who was present in the court in connection with some other case, tried to pacify both sides and in the process caught hold of the necktie of one of the advocates.

Following the incident, the lawyers brought the matter to the notice of the District Bar Association (DBA) president Parupkar Singh Ghuman and the latter took up the case with senior police officials and the District and Sessions Judge.

Later, Sarabha Nagar DSP Bhupinder Singh also reached the court complex to mollify the angry lawyers.
