Scores of shiksha mitras were injured as the police used batons to disperse ad-hoc teachers, who took to streets in different parts of the state, to press for benefits similar to permanent employees. In Etawah, the teachers, who were demanding "equal pay for equal work", blocked rail tracks at the Farukkhabad crossing. When the police attempted to remove them, they indulged in brick batting in which several people were injured.
