With the Amarnath agitation playing a considerable role in influencing the decision of voters in Jammu, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) has announced that it will revive its activities by holding an all-party meeting of legislators from Jammu “to end discrimination against the region”.
“As soon as the new government is formed, we will hold the meeting of all the legislators of Jammu,” said SAYSS spokesperson Narinder Singh, adding that only those who supported the agitation spearheaded by the Samiti won in Jammu. “There were some members from Congress like Sham Lal Sharma from Akhnoor who supported the agitation and that is the reason they won,” he said.
The Amarnath card was effective in many Hindu-areas, with the BJP getting 11 seats in Jammu region and the Congress, PDP and NC winning seats from the Muslim-majority areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch.
