  • Political parties are yet to declare their list of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, but aspiring candidates are loathe to wait out, having already put up their posters and hoardings all over the city.

Hoardings of Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, former Member of Parliament Vijay Goel and MP Kapil Sibal are up in the constituencies they are aspiring to contest in the Lok Sabha polls.

Arti Mehra’s adverts, ‘Women Power in Action; Delhi Dil Se,’ are up all over South Delhi, from where Mehra has been pitching to get a ticket.

Her hoardings portray her as a prominent woman candidate from the BJP, as well as one who is ‘youthful, credible and accessible’.

Ajay Maken who is hopeful of getting a ticket for the New Delhi Parliamentary seat, has already put up posters at Panchkuian Road and Motia Khan Market. Maken’s hoardings declare that Karol Bagh area has been notified under the special area plan and commercial activity will be allowed in the area under the new Masterplan. However, there is no such proposal in the Masterplan yet.

“People have been coming to me seeking clarifications. Maken is trying to play a cheap political game through his poster campaign,” alleges Sunil Kakkar, the BJP councillor from Paharganj.

Posters of Congress MP Kapil Sibal and BJP councillor Vijender Gupta are also up in the Chandni Chowk area.

While Sibal’s posters have his website and email address, promising voters that he is easily approachable, Gupta’s poster speak of his good work in the past, which he will continue to do in the future. “I am already a sitting Member of Parliament and till the time my party tells me not to fight the elections, I can campaign,” said Sibal.

    ... contd.
