A week before the nominations were to be filed, the Mumbai Cricket Association election seemed like a non-event with those in power expected to enjoy a cakewalk. But with Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh throwing his hat in the ring and with the surfacing of differences within the ruling group things have changed. Though, president Sharad Pawar and vice-presidents Deshmukh and Dilip Vengsarkar don’t have election day worries since they are unopposed, an interesting contest is on the cards for the post of two joint secretaries and the all-important treasurer’s position.
