Australia captain Ricky Ponting says his team will take an aggressive approach to the third Ashes test starting Thursday as the hosts seek to level the series.
Ponting said the return of stroke-playing opener Phil Hughes and the inclusion of No. 6 batsman Steve Smith signalled Australia’s intent to take the fight to England following a humiliating innings defeat in the second test in Adelaide.
The Australian captain said Wednesday that “if we look through the great success we’ve had in the last few years (it) has been with aggressive-natured players in our batting order.”
The WACA ground pitch generally favours pacemen but local West Australian spinner Michael Beer may make his test debut to offer variety to the attack.
