There is a sparkle in her eyes as soon as you talk of Athens. Pooja Rajawat from Agra is all set to represent the country in powerlifting in the Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held at Athens. She has already attended three preparatory camps for the same and now the fourth and final is to be held at Delhi in June before the Indian team leaves for the mega event.
Poojas talent in the sport can be gauged from the fact that she took to the sport just two years backin 2009 and the same year she excelled in the national meet for the special persons held at Bhopal to get selected in the India camp for the Special Olympics World Summer Games. Making it to the squad for the big event is an achievement in itself.
Pooja accompanied the other special athletes from Agra who had to be here at Lucknow for a state level tourney even though competitions in powerlifting were not be organised here. Arun Kumar Singh who coaches her at the school feels that 17-year-old is full of talent in the sport. Despite being mentally challenged,Pooja has been a quick learner in powerlifting. She has been performing really well in the 48 kg weight category. While Pooja prefers to respond to most of the queries in very few words but you talk about Athens and she says with a smile, I will return with a medal. I have been practising hard.
