International Air Transport Association (IATA) Director General Giovanni Bisignani has expressed his apprehensions over the state of the Indian Aviation industry saying that the Indian story has gone wrong on the infrastructure front. “I have been concerned since the last four years about the lack of infrastructure in the Indian aviation industry. India had a great story (in terms of growth in the aviation industry) but this was not parallel with the growth in aviation infrastructure and now we’re experiencing difficulties,” Bisignani told The Indian Express over the phone after the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) meeting on climate change in Montreal. His comments came after two of the country’s leading airlines — Jet Airways and Air India — were brought to their knees by striking pilots in the past month and with the country’s top three carriers frequently being in the news for being severely plagued by debt.
