Around 50 people, who initially supported the Posco project but are now opposing it over land compensation prices, were arrested Thursday while trying to obstruct land acquisition, which was being carried out amidst tight security.
While the first day of land acquisition went off peacefully Wednesday despite protests by anti-Posco group Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, the officials faced protests from activists of United Action Committee, which earlier backed the mega project,on Thursday. The UAC activists blocked the road to Gada Kujanga as officials tried to reach Polanga and Bayanalkandha this morning. UAC president Anadi Rout along with other activists were arrested. Over 700 police personnel were deployed in Balitutha,Gobindpur,Gada Kujanga,Nuagaon and other areas.
