“Everyone from Madonna to Elle Macpherson has been seen wearing Victoria’s dresses and,as a result, they’ve developed a money-can’t-buy exclusivity about them,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

The insider added: “This operation was meticulously planned. The thieves must feel they can make a fortune selling the collection on the black market.

“The lorry was on its way to the airport where the spring/summer collection was to be flown to New York designers Neiman Marcus.

“After pick-up from Victoria’s London offices, the van was followed to another address.

“The driver made a delivery and on his return he noticed the vehicle’s padlocks were broken.

“Two men then burst out of the back of the van and made off with two huge boxes of dresses.

“The driver was pushed to the ground and badly shaken but he immediately called the police.

“Victoria was informed straight away about the incident and was shocked and deeply saddened, although her first priority was the well-being of the driver.”

Footage of the hijack is captured in CCTV cameras from a cinema but the poor quality pictures do not provide the vehicle registration of the thieves’ truck.
