Police on Thursday arrested a man from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh for posing as a doctor and cheating many of lakhs of rupees on pretext of providing them jobs or getting them admitted to prestigious hospitals. Police also recovered two fake nameplates,a rubber stamp,stethoscope,white apron,OPD cards and a number of original marksheets from the accused.
According to police,the accused,identified as Rakesh Singh,wanted to become a doctor. However,after three unsuccessful attempts at the Pre-Medical Test (PMT),he decided to pose as a doctor and got a fake nameplate identifying himself as Dr Rakesh Singh and a rubber stamp of Senior Resident,Neurology Department,AIIMS,to convince people.
He even told his family and friends in Uttar Pradesh that he was working as a doctor with a prestigious hospital in Delhi and,if anybody wanted to get treatment or even a job,they could contact him. Surprisingly,his wife and two children were also unaware that he was a fake doctor and always referred to him as Dr Rakesh Singh, said DCP (South) Chhaya Sharma.
She said Singh used to approach victims and lure them with offers of getting them jobs in prestigious hospitals. After taking their money as well as original documents,he would change his residence.
The incident came to light after one such victim,Amit Kumar,alerted police that Singh,a doctor,had cheated him of Rs 3.65 lakh. Another complainant was reportedly cheated of Rs 2.2 lakh in a similar manner.
Rakesh,police said,had moved to Delhi almost two years ago. He was arrested from his South-Extension residence,where he was staying with his family.
Rakesh had completed his BA in Psychology through correspondence.
