The only positive outcome of the August 25 incident involving a gun battle between the police and criminal Balwinder Singh Bhootna is the priority status being accorded to the security arrangements at the station.
In a recent step in this regard, 31 CCTV (close circuit television) cameras have been sanctioned for the stations to keep a vigil on anti-social elements. The Railway Protection Force is also learnt to have identified the places where these cameras would be installed.
Gurjasbir Singh, post commander of RPF, said the force has got 31CCTV cameras sanctioned which will be installed at the station very soon. "We had sent a proposal to install CCTV cameras at the station. It will help us increase the vigil at the station," he said.
Besides, in order to fortify the station with all high-tech security arrangements, three metal detector door frames have also been recently installed — two at the entrance to platform number 1 and one at the entrance from the ticket and booking windows' side.
"We have sent a proposal for acquiring three more such door frames so that there is no security lapse at any level at the station," added Gurjasbir. At a particular point of time, there are about 20 RPF personnel posted at the different locations at the station along with some 15 to 20 personnel from the Government Railway Police.
The RPF has also completed the process of acquiring a permanent dog squad which will have two sniffer dogs. "We are looking for a handler now and the rest of the process is almost 100 per cent complete." he said.
